Each Class:
The principles and activities of each class are built on the developmental needs of children:

  • Movement - Children learn best through movement from birth to school age.  The human body needs to move in order to develop rhythmic acuity and expression.
  • Listening - Listening is a learned skill.  Through music we help children focus their attention on specific sounds, rather than simply allowing sound to fill the background.
  • Vocal Development - Building a common repertoire of songs is vitally important for confidence, social interaction and stimulating neural pathways.
  • Rhythm and Tonal Patterns - Just as the sounds of the alphabet provide the foundation for spoken language, rhythm patterns (Du, Ta, De) and tonal patterns (Do, Re, Mi) provide the foundation for musical language.
  • Playing Instruments - Children enjoy tapping the beat and delight in exploring instrumental sounds.  By handling play objects, children exercise their sense of touch and develop hand-eye coordination.

Monthly Song Focus:
The following are monthly focus areas for putting music to life skills using various artists for "Songs that Teach."  This weekly music program is for enrolled students in participating schools above.
